This story has it's origins in a Doctor Who annual of the 1970s. I can’t remember which one, although I think it may have been the Tom Baker era. But there WAS a short story in it in which the TARDIS is accidentally miniaturised and trapped inside a fruit at first, then stuck between the teeth of a person who ate the fruit, mistaken for a pip and poked out with the finger before it was able to rematerialise full size.

I remembered that much detail of the story all these years and the idea of turning it into a #9 and Rose story was irresistible. The fruit becomes an apple in the fruit bowl in Jackie’s kitchen, the eater of the apple is Mickey, and the fun of Jackie’s reaction to a TARDIS shaped hole in her kitchen wall just wrote itself after that. A short story from the 70s era of Doctor Who revived for the 21st century.
