Day of purification is a story that pushes the PG envelope a little bit. And there is definitely a spot of titillation there for anyone who likes the idea of a group of women of various ages, and one pregnant, bathing naked. The back story of Lily and Jules making love under the moon a week before their Alliance is also a tiny bit juicy.

And yes, they’re meant to be. Every so often in these stories you’re going to get something a bit spicy like this. You won’t get any outright porn. There will be no confirmation that Time Lords are significantly better endowed than humans or anything like that. But a little Mills and Boon level excitement is going to turn up now and again.

And why? Because there are far too many prudes in the world who complain about the stupidest things, like gay kisses on Eastenders or the fact that The Doctor’s latest companion, the lovely Amy, wears short skirts and used to be a kissogram. Sex is a natural part of life and as long as it is between consenting adults and in private – or failing that, the middle of the southern plain of Gallifrey – there is nothing wrong with it.

All of these ‘spicy’ stories are loosely dedicated to the prudes who complain about this sort of thing, most especially Della, the former member of the Real Doctor Who Fans forum who would get on her high horse every other week about something like this, and a fourteen year old who complained on the RDWF shoutbox about the Marion and Kristoph stories being too passionate. There is nothing in this story that should bother a fourteen year old who lives in the real world. Anyone too sheltered to cope with the idea of women bathing naked or a little hanky panky between two people who are about to get married anyway needs to open their eyes a bit.
